Lakes are the place to be on the 4th!!!! Also, “ THANK
YOU” to all the volunteers
from the park and community and to the businesses for their generosity for
making the 4th so special. TO THE BOATERS,
PONTOONERS AND JETSKIERS: Please remember to respect other boaters and follow
boating safety. And, please watch
out for the wildlife on the lakes, specially the baby waterfowl. They are protected by law, and some are not
able to fly yet. When you are seen
plowing through them, you will be reported to the DNR. On the evening before the 4th of
July, Lake Roland is a sight to behold.
The boat parade was stunning again this year. The number of boats and pontoons was
down, but the creativity and work that was displayed was absolutely
fabulous. If you have not seen the
parade, make sure that you do next year.
You will be in awe of all the lights and themes that depict the
celebration of the 4th of July. The children’s parade in the State Park at 1:00
p.m. on the 4th is also a fun place to be. Lots of decorated
bikes, trikes, golf carts, pets and other modes of transportation. And then the ice cream and hotdogs
after. Twin Enjoy your summer picnics.
Once again we will have a summer cleanup in the
township. This went over real well
last year. It gives everyone a chance to get all of their unwanted items disposed
of properly. We will have the Waste Management dumpsters on
site in the parking area of the township hall on Saturday, August 8 from 8
a.m. to 5 p.m. You must be a Township resident and/or taxpayer to dump your
junk. There will be someone at the site to assist you. NO METAL, NO HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE, NO
REFRIGERATORS OR OTHER WHITE GOODS, NO PAINTS, OILS, ASBESTOS,
FLOURESCENT BULBS. LET’S CLEAN-UP OUR TOWNSHIP

SNOWPLOWING IN
ELM RIVER TOWNSHIP
Snowplowing of the roads in Elm River Township
comes out of the Houghton County Road Commission facility located in Alston
on M-38. There is a total of 60 miles of roads to plow in
our township and the driver has 37 intersections and turnarounds to
maneuver. During the winter we have
39 households with residents that live here and endure our winters. From Alston The drivers go to Winona first since the school
is located there. The steep hill on
the street going past the school is known as the “Hell Hole” to the drivers
as it can be treacherous during heavy snow. The snowplow drivers do an excellent job of
keeping our local roads plowed. We
commend them for their hard work and give them a big “THANK YOU”!!
