ELECTION FOR MILLAGE RENEWAL

Text Box:

1.00 for the fire fund, 1.00 mill for General services, and 2.00 mills for the general fund, the amount of tax will be $158.85.  This would be and increase of $1.21 in the taxes you pay to the township.

With the cuts to revenue sharing and PILT monies that the State is imposing upon townships, we stand to lose $10,000 in revenue.  This will have a severe impact on our township.

The proposed millage renewals are needed in order for the township to continue with the services that we are able to provide.  We are trying to be able to provide more to the residents/taxpayers, but with limited revenue it is extremely difficult.

On August 4 there will be an election to renew the three millages that expired on December 31, 2008.  The millages are for the general fund, general services and the fire fund.

The services that are supported by these millages are garbage pickup, dust control, streetlights, cemetery services, and fire department services among others.

The millage rates that were collected in 2008 were .9924 for general services, .9924 for fire department services and 1.9848 for the general fund.  The renewal rates would be 1.00 mill for the fire fund, 1.00 mill for general services, and 2.00 mills for the general fund.

What this would mean to the amount of taxes you pay:  For example, if your taxable value is $39,712, the current tax you pay to the township is $157.64 for the total of 3.9696 mills.  With the renewal of the millages back to
